Australian Centre for Quantum Computer Technology

It has been in the pipeline for a long time and now it is closer to reality. The quantum computer is being built by Quantum Professor Michelle Simmons and fellow researchers at the Australian Centre for Quantum Computer Technology, but by a few qubits at a time. This effort is intended to bring about a transformation in traditional processing of information. The quantum computer prototype is made up of silicon, the building blocks for a traditional microprocessor. Professor Simmons is working on improving the qubit test structures in a silicon atom with atomic precision. The intention is for devices to be created that can control the position of qubits and their environment while electronically manipulating them.
