About ELICOS at CDU

The ELICOS (English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students) is now managed by the Australian Centre of Languages (ACL) which is currently known as the ACL Darwin English Centre.

Both centres provide accredited English courses to international students and they include English for academic purposes and General English.

The ACL Darwin English Centre is well equipped with modern classrooms, access to computer and language labarotaries, student common rooms as well the use of many CDU amenities.

The Centre's strategic location allows for international students to explore Kakadu National Park and the territary's rich Aboriginal heritage.

Course Information

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
This course is for those students intending on studying at college or university in Australia.

Course modules include listening, speaking, reading and writing for academic purposes.

Direct Entry

On successful completion of the course, students may gain direct admission to Australian universities including CDU.


General English

This course is for travellers or visitors to Australia who wish to improve their English language communication skills for daily communication purposes.

Course modules include reading, listening, speaking and reading with the aim to develop basic conversational skills.

Personal Support

TAFE Queensland offers international students personal and vocational counselling free of charge for a short duration of time. Personal counselling may help you resolve any issues affecting your studies as a student. This may include cultural adjustment, relationship issues etc...

Home stay with Australian families - this option is very popular with international students Private rental accommodation - prices may vary according to budget, lifestyle and locality considerations Shared accommodation is also very popular with international students because it is a very economical arrangement and costs are shared and therefore reduced Besides this, TAFE Queensland can assist you in finding suitable accommodation.
